Meet our newest pack member!

Happy 2018! We are starting off the new year introducing our newest pack member, Petey, the chihuahua-Italian Greyhound mix (we think). And that's actually a designer dog "breed" called "Italian Greyhuahua". I'm not kidding. Look it up!

We're also participating in the #AppreciateTheMoments monthly themed photo challenge for dog and cat moms. Because, well, I'm a dog and cat mom.

So, I'm back to a six pack! hah and I do not mean my abs, let me assure you.

January's topic for #AppreciateTheMoments is "winter".

Here's Petey, wearing one of his sweaters. He is an odd-sized dog, so small is too small, but medium is too big. He manages to wiggle his way out of most clothing I put on him.

Owning a small dog is very different from owning large ones. I've never had a small dog before. It sure is a learning experience.  I'll write more about that, as time goes on.

For now, welcome to the pack, Petey, and happy winter everybody!

Petey has a unique trait of being able to walk with both hind legs off the ground! LOL!
For Pete's sake, let me in! It's cold out here!

  1. Congratulations on the new family member! He sure is cute. I have trouble finding clothes for both of my dogs, too--Barley has a big chest and a tiny head and a tiny waist, so if it fits her chest, it's too loose farther down her body and slips over her head. Rye is really long and really skinny, so she needs the length of bigger clothes but then she drowns in them! Looks like Petey has at least one good winter outfit, though!

  3. He wriggled his way right out of that sweater, twice! And he took off his winter parka while running through the snow the other day. It was like when you lose your bikini top in an ocean wave. I was laughing so hard!! His former owners are giving me the sweaters they have, and I'm also getting hand-me-downs from my other dogs' adoption coordinator! What a network.

  4. Congratulations on your adorable new family member! Petey looks like he might be OK with the cold/winter? You should check out the website Madebyde dot com. She custom makes coats so you can get the exact size you need.

  5. We used to pet sit for a small dog, like 8 lbs. Mom said it was not her thing. She was always afraid she would step on him. Cats are the same size or bigger, but she felt they were more agile. There is a pet for everyone and yours has found a good home, and that is what counts!

  6. I'm used to cats, too. I pick him up as if he were a cat, but it's different and it ends up hurting my arms to lift him! LOL! Cats sort of "fold into you" when you pick them up. Dog? Not so much. This guy is around 16-18 pounds, so a little bigger than a cat. He follows on my heels so closely, sometimes I don't even know he's behind me! He is cute, though, and he fit right in almost like he has been here all along!

  7. Hi Jan! Thanks so much, I will check it out! I've never seen a winter like this, although the meteorologists on TV said we had a two-week cold snap like this just two years ago. I don't remember it. I have never seen 14 days of below-zero weather with no break, and I've lived here my whole life. Anyway, he is doing ok. We go out for 14 seconds, and then go back in ha ha.
